About Alpha Lambda Omicron

The Alpha Lambda Omicron chapter of Sigma Tau Delta was founded in 2004.  Sigma Tau Delta, the international English honor society, boasts 600 active chapters.  For more information about the society itself, check out the official website.

Why Join Alpha Lambda Omicron?

Why become a part of what we're doing?  Here are a few of the benefits of becoming a member:

  • One-year semi subscription to The Newsletter, Sigma Tau Delta's
  • One year annual subscription to The Rectangle, Sigma Tau Delta's literary magazine
  • Looks great on a résumé
  • Apply for scholarships, internships, graduate assistantships, and writing award opportunities through Sigma Tau Delta
  • Submit papers for possible publication in The Rectangle
  • Apply for the opportunity to serve on an international Board of Directors as a Student Advisor or Student Representative

Membership Requirements

Interested in becoming a member?  If you can answer yes to the following, you are eligible for membership.

  • Are you a student at Villa Julie majoring or minoring in English?
  • Do you have a minimum of 2 college courses in English language or literature beyond the usual requirements in Freshman English?
  • Do you have a B in English?
  • Do you rank in the highest 35% of class in general scholarship (B average)?
  • Have you completed at least 3 semesters of college coursework?
  • Are you currently enrolled as a graduate or undergraduate student?

If so, pick up an application from the English bulletin boards in the library or contact faculty advisor Dr. Nanette Tamer at f-tamer@mail.vjc.edu.

If you're admitted, then you'll receive an acceptance letter.  You will also have to the pay one-time international dues of $37.00 and an optional $7.00 additional for an honor cord at graduation.
